Microsoft's Expression Web Setup Instructions . . .

Expression Web Support

Here's a Step-by-Step set of instructions on how to setup Microsoft's Expression Web to connect to your website.

These instructions were written with the assumption that this is the first time you have setup your HTML Editor to connect to your website.  If it is not, then the steps that we've outlined below might be slightly different.

Anyway, for you first-timers, simply follow the step-by-step instructions below and enter your FTP account information where necessary. Once complete, you will be able to start editing your website.

Step 1. Click on "Start” and then click on "All Programs" and then click on "Microsoft Expression Web 4". Expression Web 4 will open.

Step 2. You will need to create a new website within Expression Web before you begin. To do this, click on the Site button at the top, then select "New Site...".

Step 3. Now you must give your website a Name (this is just your name for the website). Select "Empty Site" from the middle column, click OK.

Step 4. Next click on the Site button followed by the "Open Site..." link and select your newly created website and click Open.

Step 5. You now need to set up the ftp connection settings. To do this, click the Site button at the top, followed by clicking the link "Publishing Settings...". Next click the "Add..." button.

Step 6. You will now be in the Connection Settings area. Enter the site Name and select FTP from the top drop down.

Step 7. For the Location you will want to enter "". The Directory field will normally be populated with your domain name without the www. or .com. (if you are not sure of the "Directory" to use, please contact us using the trouble ticket link below).

Step 8. Under the Credentials section, you will need to enter your Username and Password that were supplied to you during join up for your account. (Note...your username must show the domain so it appears as "tothenet\your_username")

Step 9. Make sure to check the box "Use Passive FTP". You can leave the Maximum Simutaneous Connections set to the default setting, click Add then OK to exit the settings.

Step 10. Next, at the bottom left of your screen click on the "Publishing" tab. You will see a link in the center of you screen you must click on titled "Connect to the current publishing destination". This will open the website on the server via the FTP connection, so you can upload/download web files as needed for addition/modification.

Step 11. Now you will want to use the arrows in the center of your screen to pull in and open up web files you wish to modify. Once complete, simpy save your changes and Publish the files back to the server using the arrows.

You are all done! Now simply choose a file to edit from the list of files that appear.
